Meet the Seamstress
Hello everyone! My name is Nya and I am the face behind Sunkissed Babes.
I always had a love for fashion. I even wanted to go to fashion school but that required me to move from home and I was not ready for that. I stayed close to home and attended Florida Southwestern State College and earned my AA degree. Unfortunately during my one year break in 2019 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Sjoren’s Syndrome, which is similar to lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Sjoren’s Syndrome causes dryness in your mouth and eyes and can affect other parts of your body. In my case, my autoimmune is attacking my lungs and I received a double lung transplant on March 26, 2023
Before my illness, I worked in retail and I loved styling the displays but during the summer, I realized that I could never find cute bikinis in a reasonable price for a broke college girl. So I told my mother that I was going to learn to sew. She thought was joking but I wasn’t! I saved up, brought a Singer sewing machine at Joann’s and started practicing January 1, 2018 It took me 2 years to finally find bikinis patterns and sew a bikini decent enough to wear at the beach.
I would mostly post my work on my Instagram and make a bikini for my closest friends and myself. But during the pandemic, I decided I wanted to have a separate account for my work and to my surprise I was recognized by a big swimwear brand called Frankiesbikinis and i started getting request for bikinis. And so Sunkissed Babes was created!
I am currently expanding Sunkissed Babes to more items other than bikinis 💕
